Stony Brook students turned out in the hundreds tonight at the Sports Complex Arena to participate in the fifth annual Rec-a-Thon.
Between 350 and 400 students showed up and played basketball, volleyball, and table tennis among other activities such as video gaming or going on the inflatable mats.
Mark McClean, a 20 year old business major, was at his first Rec-a-Thon. ?I?ve been looking forward to this all day,? he said, standing alongside his friends waiting to register and play basketball.
David Hairston, manager of intramurals and sports clubs for the Campus Recreation department, was satisfied with this year?s turnout. ?There?s a lot of people here, a lot of people enjoying themselves,? he said.
?To have the opportunity for kids to be able to do something else on a Friday night besides maybe going out to drink and party. They can come and play and have a good time and enjoy some music and have some free food,? he added.
Volleyball was a popular sport for some attendees, including Dalton Roe, 18. ?It?s my first one,? the freshman biochemistry major said. ?I?m very excited to represent Tabler. Just warming up, I saw a lot of good talent on our team so I?m actually really excited. I think we?ll do very well,? he said.
