IBM: We're on the cusp of the Quantum Computing revolution (video)

Technology's holy grail is the development of a "perfect" Quantum Computer. Traditional computers recognize information as bits: binary information representing "On" or "Off" states. A quantum computer uses qubits: operating in superposition, a qubit exists in all states simultaneously -- not just "On" or "Off," but every possible state in-between. It would theoretically be able to instantly access every piece of information at the same time, meaning that a 250 qubit computer would contain more data than there are particles in the universe. IBM thinks it's closer than ever to realizing this dream and if you want to know more, we have the full details after the break.

Real Estate New Albany IN News You Can Use! | Kentuckiana ...

Real Estate New Albany INAs today?s housing market has homeowners fighting the itch to move, many turn to renovation projects to improve their existing spaces.

Look at a homeowner?s wish list, and the bathroom often tops the list. With its frequent use and endless potential, easy changes offer a big payoff.

In spite of its heavy use, bathrooms are often some of the smallest areas in a home. Cross tight square footage with limited storage, and it quickly becomes cluttered and cramped ? far from a pleasant place to start and end each day. Adding function doesn?t require changing your bathroom?s footprint. To maximize your bathroom storage and make it work best for you, consider these design and organizational tips.

Tip 1: Install a floating vanity

A big trend in small bathroom design is the floating vanity; its wall-mount installation leaves floor space below open and uninterrupted, which tricks the human eye into reading the space as larger than it actually is. Floating vanities come in a variety of materials and designs that offer plenty of countertop space and storage solutions.

Tip 2: Make your mirror work harder

Is your bathroom sporting an old bulky medicine cabinet?? Replace it with a smarter option designed with innovative storage that makes life easier. Robern, the industry leader in bathroom storage and grooming, recently introduced the R3 Series Mirrored Cabinets, a perfect solution for DIY-ers looking for a fast, affordable fix. The 1-inch flange around the cabinet?s perimeter covers imperfections, eliminating the hassle of retiling or replastering, making it a project you can easily complete in a day.

Tip 3: Use hidden space to your advantage

In a small bathroom it might be hard to imagine where you might find even an inch of extra space, but there?s one secret area you can access and use to your advantage. If you have a blank wall, the space between the studs offers a plethora of potential storage space. You can build shelves directly between the studs, which adds lots of extra space for items like washcloths and toiletries, all within the existing footprint.

Tip 4: Get wired for modern practicality

Your morning routine charges you for the day ahead, so make sure items like electric razors and toothbrushes are fully charged, too. Cabinets equipped with outlets, such as the Robern PL Series with electric shelf, keep personal care items fully juiced and concealed, leaving countertops and sink surfaces clutter-free for a clean and organized space both you and guests to enjoy.

Tip 5: Revamp the storage drawer

Vanity drawers in disarray steal precious time from your morning and evening routine. First step to function: Purge. Toss old or unused cosmetics, personal supplies, grooming tools or other items you don?t use. Next, reorganize with inserts that transform drawers into organizational powerhouses. Look for inserts that will streamline how you use your bathroom, such as options with different sized compartments or even one made specifically for your hair dryer.

Oscars - Tv Food and Drink

7:15am ? Up and making food for the day. I?m officially my grandma.

8:45am ? MG wakes up and, with his breakfast, trumps my entire morning?s work in all of twenty minutes.

9:00am ? MG and I sit down to breakfast while watching The Planets on The Science Channel. MG has an honest interest in the temperatures on other planets (?Wow! I could watch this ALL DAY!?). I?m afraid to tell him I?m only watching it to get it the hell off my DVR before the 12 hour Oscar coverage onslaught begins in less than an hour.

9:50am ? I wonder why after 90 minutes of cooking I still can?t smell the Spanish style tomato, orzo and jalapeno soup from the kitchen.

9:51am ? I plug in the Crock Pot.

9:56am ? I go into the bathroom and ask MG if I can take a picture of him taking his Oscar shower for posterity. His reply: ?I am not TV. I am not food. I am not drink.?

11:52am ? My sister arrives from Claremont and we argue over whether we will do our Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay beauty mask treatment before or after the Red Carpet starts.

11:55am ? the Hollywood animal trainer being interviewed by Ross the Intern mentions that he trains animals from We Bought a Zoo. My sister and I recall that?s movie final gross and give each other the sad doll face, then snicker.

12:02pm ? I tell Jodi that MG and I watched Harry and Tonto last night featuring an Oscar-winning performance by Art Carney. Jodi gives me the ?I?ve never heard of that movie? face, and I reply, ?Art Carney goes across the country with his cat and has interesting adventures,? and she nearly spits her Diet Coke out on my carpet.

12:15pm ? Jodi reads the label on the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay beauty mask treatment. ?It?s the strongest beauty mask in the world! Wow, Gary where dod you get this?? I answer, ?Ralphs!?

12:35pm ? There?s a monkey in a dress on the tv. Jodi: ?Some day all Hollywood movies will star monkeys.?

1:02pm ? E! is showing the kiss between Jonah Hill and Russell Brand from Get Him to the Greek. I ask Jodi who she?d rather kiss if she had to. She says, ?I?d always go for the fat geek over the dirty creep.?

1:08pm ? Me: ?Geez. They have to showcase the one guy from Glee I probably wouldn?t sleep with.?
Jodi: ?He?s singing with Kermit the Frog? That?s not doing anything for you??

1:24pm ? E! begins their Victoria?s Secret mini fashion show. ?I don?t know what this has to do with the Academy Awards. ?The rep from Victoria?s Secret says that?s it?s important that ?things underneath aren?t allowed to move around.? ?I ask Jodi, ?Do you have to worry about things moving around?? ?Jodi: ?I?ve had four kids. ?EVERYTHING moves around.?

1:44pm ? Jodi re: Ryan Secrest. ??That guy sweats money. ?Seriously, he steps out of his car and makes a million dollars. ?It?s bullshit, man!?

Cheese, Art and TV - TV Guidance - Macleans.ca

A lot of ink was spilled (if bandwidth counts as ink) over Ryan McGee?s post ?Did The Sopranos Do More Harm Than Good??, where he raises the question of whether heavily-serialized, ?novelistic? TV has become such an all-pervasive standard that it can lead to weak individual episodes and half-baked serial stories that don?t go anywhere. (Or, as I sometimes put it: after the writers of Nash Bridges went off and did Lost, even the shows that would be better off being Nash Bridges tried to be Lost.)

Like others who have responded, I don?t think The Sopranos is the show to blame for this, if ?blame? is the right word, and it probably isn?t. The Sopranos arrived on TV in a time when broadcast network drama had already become very serialized ? as John Wells explained in a 1995 article that may have introduced the term ?showrunner? to the public, the modern showrunner role in drama came about because TV dramas were too complex to be written by freelancers. And both The Sopranos and Six Feet Under were more reliant on standalone episode stories than almost any subsequent HBO drama.

I?ve worried about the decline of the standalone episode in TV drama. (Not to mention the fact that shows often seem to announce in advance that they?re only doing standalone episodes because they think that?ll pull in some newbie viewers; you don?t get good episodes that way, you get them because you like them and the writers pitched some great stories, like they did on The X-Files.) But I would not blame one particular show or group of shows, and again, ?blame? is the wrong word. And it?s probably not online culture, either, because this is part of a process that started before most writers knew about the internet.

In some ways it may come down to the fact that U.S. TV drama has gone from a freelancer culture to a staff writing culture. (So has comedy, but for various reasons, TV comedy storytelling hasn?t changed as much over the years.) Everything about the way TV drama is written tends to drive it towards more serialization; even if the show starts out with a standalone episode structure, the existence of broader storylines ? and the fact that almost everyone on the show knows what those basic storylines are ? winds up driving the selection of individual episodic plots, which in turn can cause the individual episode plots to fall away entirely. Shows where freelancers come in and pitch story ideas for that one week are going to be less serialized, for better or for worse.

Overall, for better, I suspect. Which is an awkward way of segueing to one of the many responses to McGee?s piece, this post by Richard Lawson was criticized by a lot of people for seeming to imply that taking TV seriously makes TV less fun. I think that can actually be a problem on a personal level. The necessity to talk about what everyone else is talking about, or keep up with the shows that are cool, can make TV viewing seem like work, and if entertainment feels like work, there?s a problem. But it?s unfair to say that, as a general matter, it?s ?just TV? or that it?s making TV less enjoyable: there?s nothing wrong with taking TV seriously, any more than movies or comics or other media that became more ambitious as they aged, and of course there?s no doubt that most people talk seriously about TV, or argue about what?s going to happen on a show, because it?s fun.

But I do understand the impulse to miss ?fun? TV drama as TV drama becomes more serious and less cheesy with every passing year. It reminds me a bit of Pauline Kael?s ?Trash, Art and the Movies, her 1969 manifesto from Harper?s magazine where she wrote about the trashy pleasures of movies, which to her were closer to what movies were all about than some acclaimed recent movies that she considered pretentious and boring, ?using ?artistic techniques? to give trash the look of art.? (The movies she picked to hate on in this essay were Petulia and 2001: A Space Odyssey, so to enjoy the essay you?ll probably have to accept that you may not agree with her on that part of it.) Being also opposed to the French idea that trashy American movies could be re-interpreted as great works of art, she argued that true art in movies is just an extension of the basic pleasure of moviegoing ? finding moments of beauty, truth or individuality in a flawed work. When a movie is a work of art, it carries us along that way for most of the picture; ?It?s the subversive gesture carried further, the moments of excitement sustained longer and extended into new meanings.? The moviemakers Kael would champion in the ?70s ? like Coppola, Spielberg, Altman and especially her friend Brian DePalma ? were often the ones whose movies were messy, scattershot and unafraid of American movie trashiness, but who carried the trashiness farther into those new meanings.

This way of looking at movies was heavily influenced by the era Kael grew up in, when watching an American movie could abound in almost private pleasures: finding moments of greatness or transcendence in a lot of movies that were basically just assembly-line studio product. Kael, who gravitated to brash Hollywood entertainments rather than self-important Oscar bait, didn?t believe that the brash Hollywood entertainments were serious art (and, as I said, reacted scornfully to the critics who later went around finding serious artistic purpose in many of those films). But she believed that there were moments that rose to the level of art, especially from the actors, who could sometimes achieve glorious things in the middle of an otherwise mediocre movie. She lists a few of them throughout the essay.

And the way she watched movies reminds me very much of the way American TV drama fans would watch TV from the ?60s right up through the ?90s. Remember John Gregory Dunne taking to The New Republic to say he?d found a great piece of storytelling, and it was a Gunsmoke episode? He didn?t say Gunsmoke was a great series or that it would enlighten us every week. He felt he had found a diamond in the rough. That was the way people felt when they found a great performance by a special guest villain on a TV show, or an unusual camera angle, or a particularly quirky script (like any of Stephen J. Cannell?s script contributions to his own shows). American dramatic television was formulaic factory work, but there were diamonds in the rough, private pleasures and beauties, if you were a fan. Even the best dramas were not very consistent from week to week, but sudden great moments were unforgettable.

?

?

American TV post-Sopranos has been very much where movies were in the ?60s and ?70s. I think the ?60s may be the best parallel. You have an art form with tremendous artistic potential, but one that has always been held back in some ways by commerce, and also by incredibly heavy censorship (which is an outgrowth of commerce: movies were censored so they could play in every theatre in the country and the world; TV was censored so no advertiser would object to buying time). You have the profits shrinking for the increasingly-out-of-touch studio/network system, with occasional big hits but lots of huge flops, and a general sense that they don?t know what the public wants. And you have many more choices ? foreign and independent films then, cable now ? available to the public. These new choices are rarely blockbuster hits, but they make money by appealing to segments of a fragmented audience, and often are more zeitgeist-y than the big bland hits. In the ?60s, it?s doubtful a that more Americans went to see a Fellini movie than That Touch of Mink, but a lot more people were arguing about the Fellini picture, just as a lot more people are really engaged with Mad Men despite the relatively small number of people who watch it.

Movies even have a parallel with the early ?Golden Age of Television? in the silent era, which was often considered a lost paradise, a time when directors had more freedom and large corporations hadn?t yet turned movies into a factory. (James Agee was one of many critics who felt that American sound movies had never really lived up to the silent classics.) In U.S. television, similarly, the ?50s was considered a lost opportunity, a period when TV promised to do challenging art, only to be rolled over by the Hollywood machine and its formulaic Westerns and cop shows. The Sopranos era has been about American TV drama slowly living up to the artistic potential that people saw in the Playhouse 90 era, just as the ?60s and ?70s were about shedding the extreme studio control and extreme censorship that had made sound movies something less than ?grown-up.?

But there?s a lot of love for old movies, and indeed, the arrival of the New Hollywood in the ?70s coincided with a huge wave of nostalgia for heavily-censored, unrealistic movies of the ?30s and ?40s. Sometimes movies with seriousness of purpose, movies that advertised and celebrated how adult they were, could seem like work. We?ve all seen movies like that and it doesn?t matter which ones they are (to Kael, 2001 was that kind of soulless movie; for many people, including a lot of the people who made it a box-office hit, it obviously was not). The experience of seeing something that aspires to leave trash behind and be grown-up art can be wonderful ? if it works for us. If it doesn?t work for us, it can leave us with a longing for the genuine pleasures and insights to be found in cheesy entertainment at its best. It?s about season 1 Buffy or a particularly good crime procedural or Western episode or a good Lost Girl or a big Jack Webb monologue or Jack Ging turning up in an unexpected place or whatever happened to stand out for us while watching ?casual? TV. We all have our favourites, and they?re like finding a great dance routine in an old B-musical movie: a flash of art in a cheesy setting, which can sometimes feel like a form of artistry.

Is it artistry? Of course. It?s just artistry within very narrow limits, similar to the limits in which Silver Age comic books worked. And just like Silver Age comic fans can discover greatness in a particularly smart variation on the formula or a particularly superb artist working within the house style (like Curt Swan on Superman), Dark Age TV fans see the variations on the formula, the memorable episodes, the great performances, even the serious issues addressed. None of this adds up to The Wire, but it?s hard for me to understand people who say that after The Wire, they can?t watch a formula cop show. (I hear this all the time, by the way. Saying ?after X, I can?t go back to Y? ? another one is ?after Arrested Development, I can?t watch a show with a laugh track? ? is the new version of ?I don?t own a TV.?) It?s like saying you can?t enjoy a great Batman story like ?Joker?s Millions? after reading ?The Killing Joke?: sure, the latter is closer to a serious work of art, but the former has interesting things to say as long as you don?t expect to be surprised by who wins and who loses. That was never the point.

So of course TV drama has been enriched and improved by The Sopranos and Lost and the rest of it. And these shows do tend to have more of what we think of as serious artistic purpose: real ongoing development that doesn?t snap everybody back to square one, episodes that can?t be shown out of order, a refusal to spell everything out for viewers who might not get it, a lack of unrealistically squeaky-clean good guys. Some of these issues are unique to certain media (like how episodic or serial a show should be) but we usually instinctively know ambition when we see it ? and respect it, because without genuine ambition, a medium will stagnate and shrivel. But I do think that you can?t make a binary division between trashy TV with nothing to say and ambitious TV that enlightens us. If a show feels like work to get through, the problem might be that you?re watching it wrong, but then again it might be the show. And depending on the situation, you might learn more from those little flashes of greatness in a formula show. And of course, many of the greatest shows of recent years live right on the edge between art and trash, novel and soap opera, much as Kael?s favourite filmmakers tended to have one foot in art film and another in exploitation film.

I don?t think taking TV seriously has made TV less fun, and I assume that anyone who watches a show all the way through is enjoying it. (If someone watches a show for a while and doesn?t enjoy it, he or she should probably stop. Writing about TV, paid or unpaid, is work; watching it shouldn?t be.) I do think that just as there was a nostalgia for ?fun? movies, which eventually led to throwback films like Star Wars and a return to Old Hollywood escapism, there is some consciousness of the (not entirely lost, but not as prevalent as they were) pleasures of ?fun? TV, and of picking out the great moments in a formula setting. Just as real life doesn?t always have clear-cut good and bad guys, television doesn?t always concentrate the greatness in the shows that aspire to greatness. And sniffing out the greatness, finding the diamonds in the rough, is a pleasure that will never go away from any medium, particularly one that balances as many different demands ? and therefore is so far away from ever achieving artistic perfection ? as TV.

2012 ? The Year Gold Exploration Stocks Explode :: Investment Logs

China is on the edge of a massive prize fight with global central banks. The prize is domination of the world?s gold supply. The fight has already begun.

This, coupled with investors taking on more risk again, and the biggest winner in 2012 could be a surprise ? gold exploration stocks.

Gold exploration stocks can give you more ?leverage? to the gold price.

That is, if the gold price goes up 10%, gold stocks could go up 20%, 100%, or even more if you pick the right stock. So if you think gold is going to go up, investing in a gold explorer is one way you can increase your potential gains.

But last year it didn?t work this way at all. In fact ? it was the other way around.

Gold stocks did worse than gold! Gold went up 10.2%. And the gold producers in the GDX index LOST 11.7%. The gold explorers in the GDXJ index scored bottom of the class, losing 32%.

What Went Wrong With Gold Stocks?

Well, you need more than a rising gold price to push the price of gold stocks up. And there were two essential ingredients MISSING from the market last year: an appetite for risk, and a firm belief in higher long-term gold prices.

Without these critical ingredients, gold stocks could not, and will not, outperform gold as they should.

The market had the kitchen sink thrown at it in 2011. We had the Arab Spring, Fukushima, the US debt ceiling debate, and the escalation of the European debt crisis. Risk appetite evaporated.

This sky-high risk level sent the whole stock market crashing 20%, taking most gold stocks down with it. The market didn?t care that gold was up for the year.

And gold explorers have the highest risk level of all gold stocks. They won?t produce cash for many years. Their lifeblood is the regular cash top-ups from the market to keep the drill rigs turning. So when risk appetite evaporated, it got hard for explorers to raise capital and their share prices tanked.

The gold bull had gone just too hard in the first nine months of the year. After setting an all-time high around US$1900, the gold price fell roughly 19% between September and year?s end.

After 11 years of consecutive gains, investors began to doubt: could the gold bull REALLY keep running? This wave of doubt about gold?s future delivered the next blow to gold stocks.

If the bull-run was over, investors wondered who would want to invest in a gold explorer? A stock that only plans to profit from gold many years into the future?

So Why Will 2012 Be Different for Gold Exploration Stocks?

Quite suddenly, the market has a raging appetite for risk again, and the gold bull is back with a vengeance. Best of all, after getting smashed last year, gold stock prices are cheap.

The fact is the gold bull never stopped running. Every few years gold has experienced a big correction, such as the 12.6% fall in 2010, the 28.9% fall in 2008, and the 21.6% drop in 2006. Each time, it sets the stage for the next leg up. Last year?s fall was no different.

Nothing has changed in the argument for gold?s record rally to continue ? Actually that?s not true ? the case for gold to keep rising just got STRONGER.

The value in gold exploration stocks lies in that they may produce and profit from gold in the future. So investors need a reason to believe that the long-term gold price outlook is good.

Even during last year?s correction, there was already a long list of good reasons to expect strong future gold prices. For one thing, gold production from mines is hardly increasing, even after a decade-long, multi-billion-dollar global exploration effort.

Only 2800 tonnes was mined worldwide last year. In 2001 it was 2646 tonnes, which is a tiny 6% rise in a decade.

Another 1689 tonnes also came from scrap gold last year ? in other words, old melted-down gold jewellery. This source of gold has also flat-lined in the last 3 years, even though the gold price has doubled in the same time. The fact is there is only so much old jewellery people will sell. And short of raiding people?s homes, there is a limit to how quickly the industry can source it.

So between 1689 tonnes from this ?scrap gold?, and 2800 tonnes from mine production, the total gold supply in 2011 was 4489 tonnes.

This total gold supply figure was up just 3% over the previous year.

China Vs the Central Banks in the Gold Rush of 2012

Meanwhile demand for gold is rising on all fronts, but SURGING demand from China and the world?s central banks has given us two BIG reasons to expect prices to rise much further.

China is already the world?s biggest gold producer. It produced a record 361 tonnes of gold last year. ALL this gold stays within China?s borders, yet it?s still not nearly enough to meet China?s accelerating demand.

Chinese gold mines provided less than HALF of what Chinese buyers wanted last year. So China imported A LOT more gold to bridge the shortfall, with Chinese gold imports TRIPLING to a total of 428 tonnes in 2011.

So between domestic mine supply and imports, Chinese gold demand last year was a total of 789 tonnes.

To put that in context, it means a massive 28% of the gold produced worldwide last year is now in China.

As with many commodities, in the last 10 years China has come from the back of the field to become the biggest player in the market. This is happening for gold later than it did for industrial commodities like copper and iron ore, because the country had to make its wealth before it could buy so much gold.

In 2001, China bought just 4% of global production. This climbed slowly to 10% by 2006, before accelerating to 18% four years later in 2010. The jump to 28% by the following year was the biggest so far. Gold imports soared in the second half of 2011 and look set to continue in 2012.

But the Chinese know they are sending prices up. They have been very astute in their buying, and following the old mantra of ?buy on the dips?. Every time the West panics and sells its gold, Chinese trading volumes spike. You can see this in data from the Shanghai Gold Exchange.

In fact Shanghai?s busiest days ever were at the end of last year when many large US hedge funds sold their gold holdings to sugar-coat their terrible end-of end-of-year results.

Source: ETF Securities

I think the Chinese demand story has much further to run, and that this will be a growing factor in maintaining gold?s 12-year bull-run.

It?s no coincidence that Chinese gold demand had its biggest ever jump in 2011 ? the year the Chinese housing bubble started to strain.

As Chinese property prices teetered at unsustainable levels, Chinese investors started pouring their money into gold. Other than the stock market, there aren?t many other investing options open to them.

Besides, for Chinese retail investors, precious metals are the only internationally traded assets available to reduce the Chinese country-risk in their portfolios.

China isn?t the only big-swinger trying to dominate the gold market. The world?s central banks are the biggest holders, with around 31,000 tonnes of gold, or seven years? worth of supply.

After selling for years, central banks have done a MAJOR U-turn in the last five years, and are now huge buyers.

Overall they bought 336 tonnes last year ? in the first nine months alone. That accounted for 7.5% of annual total production.

Buying 7.5% of global supply in 9 months implies the total demand for the year will have been 10% of annual total production. That?s up from just over 1% the year before.

This means the combined share of Chinese and Central bank gold demand has doubled from 19% to 38% of the market in the space of a single year.

Any auctioneer will tell you that you only need two serious buyers to get a good result.

And China is now going head-to-head with the world?s central banks in a battle for global gold supply.

This fight has been brewing for years. And is not about to stop now.

PFT: Roethlisberger says he hasn?t heard from Haley

NFL Honors And Pepsi Rookie Of The YearGetty Images

On those two or three occasions per year when the folks at GQ decide to chime in on football, my initial reaction is (to borrow a phrase from Brandon Jacobs) ?stay cute and shut up.?? Most of the time, however, there?s something in there worth repeating.

Especially when the author is our good friend Michael Silver.? Who has rarely been called ?cute? and who even more rarely shuts up.

Silver has compiled an ?oral history? of Tim Tebow.? Since I?m finally forcing myself to trudge through the clumsy, narrative-challenged oral history of ESPN, I was prepared to ping-pong from quote to quote in the hopes of trying to find something instructive and/or entertaining from the broader item.

The new quotes loosely track Tebow?s first almost-full season as a starter.? Here are the ones that stuck out.? For those of you who received your ?I read the 750 pages of the ESPN book and all I got was this lousy T-shirt? T-shirts, it?ll be a snap (relatively speaking) to breeze through the whole thing.

Vikings defensive end Jared Allen has the most insightful comment of anyone.? (Yes, that?s the first time that specific sentence has ever been uttered in all of human history.)? ?You know what the coolest part about the whole thing is?? Allen says.? ?And the reason people hate it?? Because it?s showing that the conventional wisdom of coaches isn?t really necessary.? You know, coaches always think they have the winning theory: ?Our way is the right way!? Blah blah blah!?? Well, here?s a dude that they basically had to scrap the whole offense for and go back to running a college [system].? And they have been successful with it.? Sometimes people think the game is more difficult than it is.? If you find something that works, go with it.? And I don?t really think it has to be a nine-syllable frickin? play.?

ESPN?s Trent Dilfer wades gingerly, until the last part, into the murky waters of the religious aspect of Tebowmania.? ?I don?t have a problem with what Tim Tebow?s doing with [his outspoken Christianity]. I?ve seen him try to articulate why he has the belief and why he believes the things he does, in a very easy way to understand.? He?s not the guy, when the cameras are put in his face, saying, you know, ?Praise to God, because he supernaturally let that ball hit my receiver!?? You know what I mean?? But he?s up-front with it, and he makes many people uncomfortable.? I do have a problem with what the Christian community is doing with his faith, that they are almost becoming a cult following.? I think it?s an ?us? problem, not a ?him? problem.?

Dilfer ultimately is right.? Tebow never has tried to suggest that there?s an Angels in the Outfield component to his success.? But others ? and there are many, and they are zealous ? firmly believe that something more than human is making good things happen for Tebow and the Broncos.? (Except, of course, when they play the Patriots.)

It doesn?t help that guys like Kurt Warner are trying to make the Tebow story into a real-life David-and-Goliath tale.? ?To me, it?s a biblical story,? Warner explains.? ?That?s what the Bible?s full of: ordinary guys who are able to accomplish extraordinary things, not by their own strength and might but by God?s hands coming with them.? And I think it?s very similar to my story and what people took from me going from a grocery-store clerk to a Super Bowl champion.?

The difference between Warner and Tebow is that Warner ultimately got a chance to demonstrate his abilities as a high-level passer.? Tebow is succeeding without those skills, and he?s desperately trying to establish them in order to keep his job.? That?s what V.P. of football operations John Elway wants to see.

?I get encouraged when I see him working within the system and throwing on time, with good feet. That, to me, is where he?s getting better,? Elway says.? ?Consistency and accuracy is gonna come when he gets consistent with his feet.? It?s like a pitcher: The front foot comes down on the same spot every single time. He?s just never really worked on that.?

Former teammate Brandon Lloyd, when asked what Tebow needs to do to become an elite passer on Monday?s PFT Live, had a slightly different focus.? ?I think that what he needs to do is what every quarterback does,? Lloyd said.? ?It?s about the classroom when it comes to being a quarterback.? Understanding how defenses are covering the offense versus the plays and routes that are being run is over half the battle, because then you can have that anticipation and that timing and then you?re not guessing where you?re throwing the ball. . . .? It?s the ability to understand what the defense is doing when you?re going under center on that particular play and understanding the grand scheme of what they?re trying to do to stop you.?

Regardless of what Tebow needs to do to get there, Elway knows that, if Tebow can, everyone in the organization will benefit.

?He has changed the culture of that locker room. The way he handles his life, the way he is with people, the way he is with media ? everybody wants to fight over what he is on the football field, but for the NFL, for the Denver Broncos, he?s perfect,? Elway says.? ?He?s a great kid.? You know, people want him to be successful.? And so do I.? Everybody in this building does, too. If he?s the guy that can be our guy for ten, fifteen years, that?s a hell of a deal for us.?

Elway should rethink calling it a ?hell? of a deal.? Unless, of course, the only way Tebow can ever get to where he needs to be entails doing a deal with the devil.? And/or Don Draper.

Are you stuck in a relationship that is hemming you in? Isn?t it the worst feeling? Here you are wanting to get on with life and enjoy it but it seems every thing you do is either mistrusted or put down by your partner. Anyone, well almost anyone can be fooled into believing they are compatible with their partner, if they are forced to give so much that there is little left of themselves in their marriage or relationship. Compromise by all means but dont be controlled to the extend that you are dominated.

Want to go away with your girlfriends for the weekend? No way, he says. You belong with me. Don?t you love me? Don?t you want to spend every moment of the weekend with me? You would, he says, if you really truly loved him.

Boy, this is so infuriating, don?t you think. ?You may love him, or not. That?s got nothing to do with spending every moment of your spare time with him.

Break that cycle now. Break that connection in your head this minute. You can love some one and not live in their pockets.

So, if your partner is trying to cage you in, sit down and have that conversation. You know the one that starts with, I love you and I feel you are being too controlling.

Southern Baptist panel recommends add-on to name

(AP Photo/Mark Humphrey, File)

(AP) ? A panel for the Southern Baptist Convention recommended Monday that its leadership approve a new, add-on description for the denomination ? "Great Commission Baptists" ? but stopped short of a complete, legal name change.

Officials described the new term as a way to give an official, sanctioned identity to affiliated churches and believers who don't want to use the term "Southern."

The Rev. Bryant Wright, president of the nation's largest Protestant denomination, has said he is concerned that the "Southern" name is too regional and hinders the evangelistic faith's effort to expand beyond the South.

The panel rejected a complete name change, citing the legal costs and difficulties. They also noted the positive associations many hold with the Southern Baptist name, such as with its well-regarded disaster relief organization.

A recent survey conducted by the SBC's own Lifeway Research firm gives weight to the idea that the name does drive away some potential members.

Of the 2,000 Americans surveyed, 40 percent of respondents had an unfavorable view of the denomination and 44 percent of respondents said that knowing a church was Southern Baptist would negatively impact their decision to visit or join the church.

Although 53 percent of respondents overall had a favorable view of the Southern Baptists, the high negatives are a concern for a denomination in which spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a fundamental to their faith.

While the 16 million member denomination continues to plant new churches in the U.S. and around the world, it has seen a decline in baptisms, church attendance and membership in recent years.

(AP) ? The United States and Mexico agreed Monday to work together when drilling for oil and gas below their maritime border in the Gulf of Mexico.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Mexico's foreign minister signed the deal at a ceremony in the Mexican resort of Los Cabos as Mexican President Felipe Calderon and U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar looked on.

The cooperation stems from an understanding that President Barack Obama and Calderon reached in 2010 to share in the profits and work together to avoid spills.

Clinton said the deal would "ensure safe, efficient, responsible exploration of the oil and gas reservoirs in the Gulf of Mexico."

"These reservoirs could hold considerable reserves that would benefit the United States and Mexico alike," she said.

But they don't necessarily stop neatly at our maritime boundary," Clinton added. "This could lead to disputes if a company discovers a reservoir that straddles the boundary ? disputes, for example, over who should do the extraction and how much they should extract."

Clinton said the agreement will prevent such disputes and create new business opportunities.

Calderon said the deal creates clear rules and should erase any fear among Mexicans that their oil will be appropriated by Americans.

And he stressed that "operations will be done in a safe and responsible manner, with full respect to the environment."

Under the agreement, U.S. companies will now be allowed to partner with Mexico's national oil company in drilling. But neither country is constrained by the other.

If the two governments can't agree on how to exploit a reservoir, either can take its share unilaterally.

The U.S. Interior Department said the agreement makes nearly 1.5 million acres of the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf more accessible for exploration and production activities.

The area could contain 172 million barrels of oil and 304 billion cubic feet of natural gas, it said.

"This is an area larger than the state of Delaware," Salazar said.

Thai police: 2 more suspects in terror case

(AP) ? Thai police say they are searching for two more suspects in a botched terror plot against Israeli diplomats that has been blamed on Iran.

Bangkok police commissioner Lt. Gen. Winai Thongson says one of the two new suspects may have been providing training in the use of explosives to three Iranian men who were detained in Thailand and Malaysia this week.

Winai said Friday that a 52-year-old man was seen early Tuesday on closed circuit camera footage leaving a house used by the Iranians in Bangkok where explosives detonated accidentally later in the day.

"Linsanity" touches down in star-struck Canada (Reuters)

TORONTO (Reuters) ? 'Linsanity' slammed into hockey-mad Canada with the force of a winter storm on Tuesday as Jeremy Lin, the National Basketball Association's (NBA) newest sensation, set hearts aflutter with a Valentine's Day visit to the league's most northern outpost.

A game between two losing teams would not normally qualify as a must-see event but Lin, the anonymous benchwarmer turned NBA superstar in a week, made the New York Knicks' visit to the Toronto Raptors the hottest ticket in town.

Part of Lin's immense appeal is his made-for-Hollywood back story of sleeping on a team mate's couch one day and living the American dream the next.

But it is a story still without an ending and, on a day dedicated to love, some began to wonder if Lin was involved in yet another basketball one-night stand or had finally settled into a long-term relationship.

"You have to have luck in life ... he had an opportunity and took advantage of it," Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni said on Tuesday in front of a crush of media after his team's shootaround. "There are a lot of NBA players who don't make it. Sometimes you get lucky."

The first Taiwanese-American to play in the NBA, Lin's rise from obscurity to toast of the Big Apple is an extraordinary tale that is hard to resist.

The point guard from Harvard, a college better known as a springboard to the U.S. presidency than the NBA, went undrafted and was cut by Golden State and Houston before finding a place at the end of the Knicks bench in December.

MARKETING DREAM

Given his chance, Lin seized the NBA spotlight with both hands, helping the Knicks to five straight wins with a string of stunning performances.

As the first ripples of "Linsanity" hit Asia, marketing men rubbed their hands with glee as they contemplated a potential candidate to fill the very large shoes left by last year's retirement of Yao Ming.

But nowhere has the fascination been greater than New York, where Lin's No. 17 jersey is the NBA's top seller and shares of Madison Square Garden Co, owner of the Knicks, shot to record highs.

Some experts say Lin has the potential to be bigger than any current athlete in terms of marketing as long as 'Linsanity' does not prove to be a passing fad.

"He is Tiger Woods before the scandal, I think he has everything going for him," Ronn Torossian, chief executive of 5W Public Relations, told Reuters. "If he can continue to deliver on the court his possibilities off the court are limitless.

"I don't think he needs to put up MVP numbers but I do think when you look at marketing greatness over the last few years, whether it is David Beckham, Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods, let's not forget they were all winners.

"Before anything else he has to be a winner. If he is, I can't tell you if we have ever seen anything like this."

'IT'S A MIRACLE'

Certainly Raptors fans are not accustomed to seeing anything like it in Toronto, where such lavish attention is reserved for the NBA's elite.

The Raptors have fielded more media credential than for any other regular season game and Tuesday's contest marked just the second sellout of the season.

Coaches, team mates, fans and even Lin himself are at a loss to explain the sequence of events that took him from anonymity to the face of the NBA.

But you do not need to be a Harvard graduate to figure out that opposing defenses are also getting acquainted with Lin and searching for a cure for 'Linsanity.'

"I've been able to get away with some stuff but defenses are going to start locking in so I'm going to have to improve," said Lin, who averaged 26.8 points, 8 assists and 4.2 rebounds in over his first five games. "If you look back at my story ... there are a lot of things that had to happen that I just couldn't control.

"I think it's a miracle because obviously I don't think anybody expected this to happen the way it happened."
